Acupuncture
The Theory of Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a system of medicine which draws on over 2000 years of knowledge and experience from China and the Far East. The theory is based around the energetic lifeforce, called “Qi”, (pronounced “chee”) that runs through our body. If Qi is not flowing as smoothly as it should, or if it is excessive or deficient, imbalances develop which lead to disease.
Very fine needles are inserted into the body to manipulate the Qi so that it flows in the way that is best for the body, redressing imbalances and bringing the patient back to health. Chinese medicine views the systems in the body very differently to conventional medicine, and understands that physical and mental well-being are deeply connected. As a holistic therapy, it takes into account the health of the whole body and mind. It is as much about the maintenance of health as the management of disease.
About Elizabeth
Elizabeth first became interested in Chinese medicine after experiencing the powerful effects of acupuncture on her own health. She was drawn to its holistic approach, where physical, mental, and emotional symptoms are treated with equal importance.
Elizabeth went on to complete a BSc in Acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, which combined the study of Chinese medicine with in-depth training in conventional medicine, as well as complementary techniques such as cupping and gua sha. In her clinical work, she has supported patients with a wide range of conditions, including pain and inflammation, injury recovery, fertility and hormonal issues, skin conditions, and digestive concerns.
